Red Eyed Beast

Purple Beyond Purple

I am unique & conqueror. I am not of the slaves that perish. Be they damned & dead! Amen. (This is of the 4: there is a fifth who is invisible, & therein am I as a babe in an egg. ) Blue am I and gold in the light of my bride: but the red gleam is in my eyes; & my spangles are purple & green. Purple beyond purple: it is the light higher than eyesight." Liber al vel Legis 2:49-51

Yet another puzzle lies within these verses.

After his discourse against failure, sorrow and fear, the energy generator Hadit declares himself "unique & conqueror. I am not of the slaves that perish. Be they damned & dead! Amen."

Aleister Crowley suggested an error because the verse fails to stop at this point. He believed the next sentence, in parenthesis, is the beginning of a new thought. I disagree.

The verse concludes: "(This is of the 4: there is a fifth who is invisible, & therein am I as a babe in an egg.)" The symbol of the babe in an egg is an immediate tip-off that Hadit is speaking of Harpocrates, the Egyptian image of Horus the child.

A comparison of verses 49-51 in all three books reveals they all speak of the great work of Horus through the Hierophant, otherwise known as the Beast. Nuit announces: "Hoor in his secret name and splendour is the Lord initiating. There is a word to say about the Hierophantic task. Behold!"

Horus declares: "I am in a secret fourfold word, the blasphemy against all gods of men. Curse them! Curse them! Curse them! With my Hawk's head I peck at the eyes of Jesus as he hangs upon the cross."

Notice that Hadit first declares himself the conqueror, then notes in the parenthesized sentence: "This is of the 4 . . ." Card Four in the Tarot deck is The Emperor, which is a reference to war, power and government.

The verse goes on to say that "there is a fifth who is invisible, & therein am I as a babe in an egg." Card Five is the Hierophant. As we discovered during our exploration of Verses 49-51 in Chapter One, the Beast spoken of by Nuit is born with the Cabalistic number of 5, the Hierophant.

Hadit appears to be suggesting that the Beast, who remains invisible for a time, may also be the reincarnation of Harpocrates. Hadit, who is the power within all things, proclaims that he is "therein" the invisible one and "am I as a babe in an egg."

Hadit sings out in Verse 50 that he is blue and gold in the light of his bride, Nuit. "But the red gleam is in my eyes; & my spangles are purple & green." I have searched for the significance of the colors in this verse and at first had a difficult time finding any symbolism that makes sense. Blue is generally a reference to the sky and gold to the sun. Red is usually always fire and war. Purple is royalty. Green suggests a regeneration of the Earth. Crowley, who lived within esoteric circles, seemed to be as perplexed. His brief suggestion was that it was a reference to a star and a snake.

But then Hadit surprises us with the line: "Purple beyond purple: it is the light higher than eyesight." The purple he speaks of is not necessarily a reference to royalty, but the ultraviolet of the universe. It is the deadly solar light of the sun.

This is a warning that when the Beast rises under the rule of Horus, the effects will have a deadly impact. And with that knowledge, the image of the red gleam in His eyes is quite significant. The Beast, filled with the power of Hadit, comes to destroy the callus man-made religious system that enslaves the human race. He comes to save the Earth from the destruction of materialism.

When he is finished, there will be regeneration, as signified by the spangles of green.
