The Core Of Every Star
I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star.
I am Life, and the giver of Life, yet therefore is the knowledge of me the knowledge of death. I am the Magician and the Exorcist.
I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. "Come unto me" is a foolish word: for it is I that go. Liber al vel
Legis 2:6-7
Throughout history philosophers have pondered over the mystery of life. We are aware of ourselves,
but cannot explain ourselves. We don't even understand why it is that when we choose to stand up and walk across a room, the
muscles in our bodies do our will with little thought. We reason that the body gets its energy from the food we eat. Beyond
that, we have no explanation for the mystery of life. That we might even ask this question is a mystery in of itself.
I have always understood the presence of a great universal energy we call God because I am aware
that everything, from the particles of the atom to the stars in every galaxy, is in constant motion. Our bodies, the desk
at which I work, the building that shelters me, the planet on which I stand, are comprised of clusters of atoms that are in
motion. The heat and light from billions of suns throughout every galaxy come from the constant burning balls of energy in
the heart of moving solar systems within each galaxy. Then there are an untold number of galaxies, each of them in motion.
This amazing invisible energy is Hadit. "I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in
the core of every star." He exists within every living thing. He is the mysterious
thing that gives us awareness of ourselves, and allows us to move about, enjoying our lives in these bodies, on this planet.
He is the core of the light that burns within every man and woman.
He states: "I am Life, and the giver of Life, yet therefore is the knowledge of me the knowledge
of death." We tend to take this energy of life for granted. We will not appreciate it until it is removed.
Hadit proclaims: "I am the Magician and the Exorcist." He has the ability to give life or take it
away.
He is "the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle." Again the symbolism here of Hadit, the
male portion of the great power of the creator, who hides within Nuit. While the wheel of the passing wagon or automobile
is visible to all, the axle that holds it in place and allows it to turn cannot be seen. Unlike the moving wheel, the axle
remains stationary, yet it is an essential part of the wheel.
The cube in the circle is an interesting concept. Taking the form of a cube implies that Had is
more than an invisible energy. It suggests three-dimensional form while the image of the circle suggests a two dimensional
form for Nuit. Why would Hadit make this statement?
Crowley said he thought the image of a cubic Had "suggests perfection projected as a 'solid' for
human perception; its square faces affirm balance, equity and limitation . . ."
While we think of space as a sphere, Crowley said. But he wrote that "Nuit cannot be symbolized
as three-dimensional, in our system; each unit has position by one temporal, and three spatial coordinates. It cannot exist,
in our consciousness, with less, as a reality. Each 'individual' must be a 'point-interval,' he must be the product of some
part of the matter of Nuit and of the motion of Hadit, determined in space by his relations with his neighbors and in time
by his relations with himself."
The Cabalistic value of Had is 10. The Tree of Life is composed of 10 Sephiroth. The 10th and final
emanation is Malkuth. The 10th Tarot is the Wheel of Fortune, symbolized by the Circle Squared by the Four Elemental Quarters.
Thus there is hidden meaning when Had informs us "I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle."
"Come unto me" is a foolish word: for it is I that go," Had concludes in verse seven.
While Nuit calls for her stars to come unto her in celebration, Hadit makes a special distinction
between her role and his own. Nuit is physical matter while Hadit is the energy within us. Thus it is impossible for us to
get any closer to him, since he is the light within every star. He is the energy that allows us to go forth under the moonlight
and experience the joy of our existence.
