Unlocking The Secrets Of Nuit
"The Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and not two; nay, are none! Nothing
is a secret key of this law. Sixty-one the Jews call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen. But they have
the half; unite by thine art so that all disappear. My prophet is a fool with his one, one, one; are not they the Ox and none
by the Book?" Liber al vel Legis 1:45-48
This package of four verses offers one of many mathematical formulas presented in the Book of the
Law for us to unravel.
Crowley struggled with it. So have other writers over the years. Any presumption that this writer
might gain any insight at all is based only on a belief that another intelligence; perhaps that of Nuit through the spiritual
magick of Aiwass, is granting guidance.
When I read the first verse: "The Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and
not two; nay, are none," I am reminded of the priest's proclamation of love for Nuit in Verse 27: "O
Nuit, continuous one of Heaven, let it be ever thus; that men speak not of Thee as One but as None . . . "
This is followed by: "None, breathed the light, faint & faery, of the stars,
and two. For I am divided for love's sake, for the chance of union." (Vs. 28-29)
Thus when I read: "the Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and not two;
nay, are none! Nothing is a secret key of this law," I have a feeling of a reversal of creation. We now have the image
of a joining together of perfect wills. And when there is harmony all of the stars fall into place within a perfect universe.
When we are all following our perfect will, each of us in orbit with one another, we are a like a cluster of atoms within
a speck of dust. No star is counted as one. All of the perfect stars become Nuit, who describes herself as None for she is
infinite.
The Cabalistic value of 61 in Hebrew means Ain, or Nothing. Nuit reveals there is something deeper
here, however, when she proclaims: "Sixty-one the Jews call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred
& eighteen. But they have the half; unite by thine art so that all disappear."
From the Cabala the number eight is the Path of Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Metaphorically, the
Tree of Life represents the Body of God, and we humans are created in this image. The Tree consists of Ten spheres, or Sephiroth,
that brought about creation. The Sephiroth are aligned in three columns headed by the Supernals: Kether, Chokmah and Binah.
In the columns under the Supernals are the Seven Days of Creation: Chesed, Geburah, Tiphareth, Netzach,
Hod, Yesod and Malkuth. Notice that the eighth emanation on the Tree of Life is Hod. Hod is associated with the planet Mercury.
The Tarot Card One represents the Magus, also called The Magician or Juggler. This card represents wisdom, will and the Word
by whom the world is created.
Thus the declaration by Nuit that she is eight, is significant. But there is more. She proclaims:
"I call it eight, eighty, four hundered & eighteen."
The Cabalistic value of 80 is Yesod, which means "foundation," yet another of the Seven Days of
Creation under the Supernals. Yesod is associated with the Moon and the element Water. It is regarded as a female sphere,
the seat of sexual instinct. It corresponds to the genital Chakra on the archetypal man, Adam Kodmon. Yesod is the sphere
of fertility and Lunar imagery.
Interesting to note that 80 also is the atomic number of the element mercury.
And finally we examine the number 418. This is the number for Abrahadabra, that Crowley suggested
is the mystical "Word of the Aeon." It is the number of Horus by way of the Egyptian name Ra-Hoor. Crowley was so intrigued
by this number he wrote volumes about its magickal values. He also named his home in Scotland Boleskine, which breaks down
into the numerical figure of 418.
Nuit instructs us to take the next move in solving the puzzle: "But they have
the half; unite by thine art so that all disappear."
Crowley suggests that the reference to "their half" points to the Hebrew number 61. He adds the
numbers 8+80+418=506. Then he adds 506+61 to get 567, which takes him to a numeric blank wall. It means transparent light.
Thus Crowley reversed the number 506 to 605, then added 61 and got 666, the mark of the Beast and the number of Elohim.
He next divides 666 by six to get 111, the "Magick square of the Sun."
Crowley suggests that 111 equals the Hebrew letter representing Aleph, which the Tarot recognizes
as the Fool with a value of zero.
(Taking a more simplistic approach I suggest taking a literal look at the Hebrew 61 and its Cabalistic
meaning: nothing. Dividing nothing by nothing produces nothing. Thus everything disappears.)
Crowley obviously spent a long time reasoning his way through this puzzle and I believe he took
the correct path. The first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, Aleph has a Cabalistic value of 111 and is spelled by a Hebrew
word that breaks down to "ox." It's Tarot card is the Fool.
And this explains the final verse of the four: "My prophet is a fool with his
one, one, one; are not they the Ox and none by the Book?"
