Sprat Issue 28 – Underground Bunkers and Tunnels
By James Donahue
Jack Sprat’s next concern opens a possible can-of-worms for not only Americans,
but perhaps people in many other parts of the world. He cites reports that world governments have been busy digging underground
bunkers and elaborate tunnel systems in preparation for some undetermined future event. Can this be true, what evidence exists,
and for what event are world leaders expecting?
There have been rumors that Denver’s International Airport, a 53-acre facility
built outside of the city between 1989 and 1993, covers a secure underground bunker system especially designed by the military.
While the story has been debunked, there has been a consistent volume of reports on the Internet by people who claim to have
either seen or visited these bunkers.
A strange news story that appeared in the European Union Times revealed "a disturbing
report prepared by General Alexay Maslov, the Senior Military Representative of the Permanent Mission of Russia to NATO, states
that he has been notified by the Americans of a plan to hold a DEFCON 1 ‘Cocked Pistol’ maximum readiness alert
drill that was to have been overseen by President Obama at one of the United States most secure bunkers located beneath the
Denver International Airport."
The story went on to say that General Maslov’s concern over the drill was "heightened"
because of "last month’s nuclear attack on the Central Intelligent Agency (CIA) branch of the intercontinental military
tunnel complex between Washington D.C. and Denver."
Another story appearing under the by-line Sorcha Faal stated that this mystery underground
nuclear attack began on August 22, 2011 and was carried out on August 23 when a magnitude 5.8 earthquake was felt all up and
down the East Coast region. That same day a 5.3 quake struck Colorado.
Could the attack story be true? The website Beyond Top Secret reports that "Sorcha Faal
is actually David Booth, an American computer programmer. ‘Sorcha’ is alleged to be a Russian academic but there
is no record of anyone with such a name in Russian academia. These periodic eruptions (scare stories) have absolutely no basis
in any kind of fact or reality."
So what are we to believe? Indeed, we must think that if America had been secretly hit
with two nuclear explosions that destroyed both ends of a secret CIA tunnel network, the nation would be counter-attacking
the source of such an attack.
But there are more underground bunkers in existence. Time Magazine revealed in a 2001
story that the U. S. Government maintains an elaborate "secret" underground facility known as Mt. Weather, designed as a place
for key government officials to flee to in the event of a nuclear attack or some other catastrophic event. It is sometimes
called the Western Virginia Office of Controlled Conflict Operations.
The Mt. Weather facility was started during the Cold War years by the U. S. Bureau of
Mines. It became some an elaborate construction poject that it became a literal underground city, complete with streets, sidewalks,
private apartments, cafeterias, hospitals, supply stores and even its own mass transit system. There is a water purification
system, electrical and sewer system.
Mt. Weather is, in short, a self contained and fully equipped and operational headquarters
for a "hidden parallel government." So the Cold War has been long over, yet our government apparemtly continues to maintain
Mt. Weather as a kind of civil defense doomsday center.
One writer suggested that Mt. Weather is the main hub of a network of an elaborate complex
of other underground facilities, all connected by that underground secret mass transit system designed to transfer a lot of
people out of harm's way. So does such an "underground America" really exist?
Conspiracy theories abound these days about an elaborate network of secret tunnels that
run from the new Denver International Airport eastward to Washington D. C. and south to Florida.
The story about the tunnels and possible rooms under Denver International Airport were
recently publicized by Jesse Ventura in his popular Conspiracy Theory television show. Ventura didn’t exactly prove
such tunnels existed, but he produced images of entrances to tunnels, military guards at the gate, and talked to people who
swore such tunnels and rooms were in existence.
Controversial geologist and conspiracy theorist Paul Schneider, who died under mysterious
circumstances in 1996, claimed that nearly 130 deep underground facilities existed under United States soil, nearly all manufactured
by the government. He claimed that he personally worked on 13 of them.
Schneider was a major contributor to a web site appropriately titled Undergrounded
Bases and Tunnels. The site offers various images of giant multi-million dollar machines designed to bore deep underground
tunnels through rock.
He wrote that "most tunneling activity is under military installations and all information
is highly restricted." He said people who have worked on these installations have surfaced from time to time to talk about
tunnels and other facilities under places like Area 51, the Northrop facility in Antelope Valley, California, and the Lockheed
installation near Edwards, California.
Schneider wrote that the tunneling is part of a $1.25 trillion yearly "black budget"
operation. He said work on the 129 bases has been going on since the days of World War II and possibly even earlier. "These
bases are basically large cities underground, connected by high-speed magneto-leviton trains that have speeds up to Mach 2.
"The average depth of these bases is over a mile. . . They all between 2.66 and 4.25
cubic miles in size," Schneider wrote.
He said one of the deepest bases exists at Dulce, New Mexico. "It goes down seven levels
and over 2.5 miles deep."
William Hamilton III, in an Internet report titled Dulce and Other Underground Bases
and Tunnels, writes about a strange story in the August 7, 1989 edition of U.S. News and World Report about a secret plan
to carry on government in the event of disaster. Called Continuity of Government, or COG, it involved creation of the Defense
Mobilization Planning Systems Agency. It involved construction of an underground network of tunnels and bases.
The story told of 50 special underground command post bunkers located in various regions
of the country, each linked by satellite or ground wave relays. In the event of nuclear attack or some other terrible catastrophic
event, the President and special teams equipped with war plans, military codes and other essential data would accompany potential
presidential successors into these posts.
Deep underground construction sponsored by the U. S. Air Force with the help of the
RAND Corporation began as early as 1958. Huge boring machines with large diameter disc-grinders were designed and used to
construct the tunnels allegedly linking the various facilities. It is rumored that the machines were, and are, capable of
boring up to seven miles of tunnel in a single day, melting the rock and packing it as lining into the walls, thus assuring
against cave-ins.
With machines like this, the story is told that the United States government now has
tunnels linking the East and West coasts and all of the secret underground bases in between.
Ventura’s Conspiracy Theory report suggested that a major military base may exist
below the new Denver International Airport. In fact, in his show, he was filmed trying to enter a cave leading down under
the airport but was stopped my military guards.
Denver’s new airport was built in 1995 over 53 square miles of barren territory
far outside the city. During construction, it was noted that deep excavations appeared to be going on at this site.
