The Holy Invisible House

"But your holy place shall be untouched throughout the centuries: though with fire and sword it be burnt down & shattered, yet an invisible house there standeth, and shall stand until the fall of the Great Equinox; when Hrumachis shall arise and the double-wanded one assume my throne and place. Another prophet shall arise, and bring fresh fever from the skies; another woman shall awake the lust & worship of the Snake; another soul of God and beast shall mingle in the globed priest; another sacrifice shall stain the tomb; another king shall reign; and blessing no longer be poured To the Hawk-headed mystical Lord!" Liber al vel Legis 3:34

Crowley thought of the "holy place" as Boleskine House, his castle in Scotland. Indeed, that building has been ravaged by his enemies, and then restored, and still stands as of this writing nearly a century later. But I do not think this verse speaks of a physical structure.

What place could remain standing, "untouched" for centuries, withstanding fire and sword? What structure would stand "invisible" but standing, unblemished, for perhaps thousands of years until the reign of Horus draws to an end? I believe we are talking about the human soul . . . the personal temple . . . and nothing less.

This is a commandment to keep our temple . . . our bodies and our minds . . . pure and right as we prepare for battle. We also must resist possession by spiritual forces that would ravage our souls. Though the bodies be destroyed; "though with fire and sword it be burnt down & shattered, yet an invisible house there standeth." We remain! We return to fight again!

But there seems to be a limit to the time that our temple is allowed to stand. The prophesy is that there will be a "fall of the Great Equinox; when Hrumachis shall arise and the double-wanded one assume my throne and place." What is this?

Throughout the history of the human race on this planet, there have only been two great hierarchies, according to Egyptian legend. These were the periods of Isis and of Osiris. Isis, the female goddess, ruled for thousands of years during what was considered "pagan" times, when women were the dominant figures. The male god Osiris then took the throne for another long history of male domination. He brought us the male god figures like the Buddha and the Christ. During this period the men controlled both government and the home. Women were subservient.

Now, with the new age of Horus, the child, we are moving into a time of equality of the sexes. It is such a radical change that the transition is painful and sometimes harsh. To achieve it, the church must go. Both men and women must rise to an understanding of their rules in this new aeon. This is what the Great Equinox means. It is a time of the year in both spring and fall, when the Sun reaches an equinox . . . when both night and day are the same length.

There is a fourth and perhaps final hierarchal time for mankind ahead. This will be at some distant point in the future when Hrumachis, a symbol of the dawning sun, succeeds Horus on the throne. Crowley said Hrumachis might bring "any new course of events," although he noted that the phrase "doubled-wanded one" suggests the Greek myth of Thmais and Thmait, and their Goddess of Justice known as Themis.

At that time, Horus promises: "Another prophet shall arise, and bring fresh fever from the skies; another woman shall awake the lust & worship of the Snake; another soul of God and beast shall mingle in the globed priest; another sacrifice shall stain the tomb; another king shall reign; and blessing no longer be poured To the Hawk-headed mystical Lord!"

It sounds as if we will not learn our lesson this time either. The Luciferian experiment will fail once again, and a remnant will be salvaged for yet another try. Thus we already know that we are going to do this all over again.

There is obviously something deeply flawed in the human race. The flaw was severe enough this time that spiritual forces raged continual warfare over our fate. Our future remains in doubt even as I pen these words. That our progenitors are willing to salvage a remnant and try again seems remarkable. It occurs to me that the prize . . . the possibility of our someday getting it right and evolving to the full level of our potential, with both hemispheres of our brains operating at full blast, must be phenomenal. Why else would Lucifer go to all of this trouble?
