Sin Is Restriction

"The word of Sin is Restriction. O man! Refuse not thy wife, if she will! O lover, if thou wilt, depart! There is no bond that can unite the divided but love: all else is a curse. Accursed! Accursed be it to the aeons! Hell." Liber al vel Legis 1:41

Crowley once explained that the new Aeon of Horus will "release mankind from its pretence of altruism, its obsession of fear, and its consciousness of sin." Instead, he said mankind will "possess full consciousness of the purpose of its own existence."

As the new age of Horus begins to take root we are witnessing the chaos of social change. The dying church is suddenly exposed for its secret sins. Powerful governments are collapsing before our eyes, financial institutions are bankrupt, anarchy through terrorism is spreading, the sexual revolution has all but destroyed the bonds of marriage and there is a growing appetite for homosexual, multi-sexual and even pedophiliac behavior.

There is a sense of general insanity going on all about us. We are now paying the price for thousands of years of religious and social restriction. Instead of functioning as free orbiting stars, humans lived under the chains of social and religious law. They consequently turned to materialism, social control, worship of false external powers, and unnatural physical pleasure as outlets for personal expression.

There is a desperate need for a new system of perfect balance to get the world back on track. This will be the work of the Beast, spoken of in Verse 15. Out of the ashes of war and destruction will rise the new science of knowledge that will tear down all world religious systems, exposing them for what they are.

Nuit makes it clear that restriction is sin.

The church has brainwashed its followers to believe that freedom is restriction from sinful acts. It then proceeds to label most of the pleasures enjoyed by men and women as sin. I have known some hard line churches to consider card playing, dancing and watching a television show as sin. The word, sex, seems to be of special embarrassment to the church. Catholic priests and nuns declare celibacy. I have heard of church leaders quitting their posts after learning of unwed pregnancies in the family.

Sex of any kind, except between husband and wife after a proper courtship and public wedding, is regarded among the most sinful of acts. Crowley wrote that "laws against adultery are based upon the idea that woman is a chattel . . ."

Nuit deals harshly with this behavior when she declares: "O man! Refuse not thy wife, if she will! O lover, if thou wilt, depart! There is no bond that can unite the divided but love: all else is a curse."

Nuit's use of the human sex act as an example of sinful restriction was not chosen by accident.

Sex is undoubtedly the most powerful emotional and physical force behind all human behavior. Yet in America, sex is a subject reserved for discussions in men's locker rooms, ladies afternoon teas, and bawdy nightclub comedy acts. Parents have difficulty talking about it to their children. Teachers and preachers warn against it in classrooms and from pulpits. This is restriction. Nuit proclaims it sinful.

Our failure to be open and frank about sex, at least in America, has created a nation of sexually frustrated and mentally twisted people. I doubt if there is another country in the world that can match ours per capita for the number of rapes, sex murders, child assaults and wife beatings that occur daily. Our cities teem with shops that sell sex in one lewd form or another. The rate of teen-age pregnancies is too high and the spread of venereal disease is at such an epidemic level that even the prudes who prefer not to talk about sex are starting to promote the use of condoms. It seems that the only type of sex that gets public discussion is pedophilia. That is because it is so abhorred by social standards, there is a major effort to put a stop to it through prison sentences and public condemnation.

A common argument against open discussion of sex is usually for the "protection of the children."

I have to wonder just what it is we are protecting our children from? Is sex, the natural reproduction process of the human race, such an ugly thing that we are ashamed to admit we practice it? Why shouldn't children be allowed to freely observe the open expression of love between a man and woman so they have a healthy understanding of sexual differences and the magic process of producing children?

Where and when did someone in our past decide that sex should be covered up and hidden in a dark and secluded place?

The church has spread its poison well. The brainwashing has been so skillfully done that many men and women have gone through their whole lives never being able to enjoy healthy sex. They are plagued by implanted guilt. Men are flocking to their doctors these days to get the new anti-impotence pill Viagra because they no longer get natural erections. Many women have gone through life in what has been secretly known as a frigid state, unable to enjoy sex or experience an orgasm. It was never meant to be like this.

Crowley noted that "sex is the main expression of the nature of a person; great natures are sexually strong; and the health of any person will depend on the freedom of that function."

When our minds are healthy, and we are living under the law of Thelema, the sexual act becomes a sacrament of will. Crowley wrote that "to profane it is the great offense. All true expression of (sex) is lawful; all suppression or distortion is contrary to the law of liberty. To use legal or financial constraint to compel either abstention or submission is entirely horrible, unnatural and absurd."
