Do We Have A Third Eye?
By

Few people exist who
have not heard something about “the third eye.” Mythological beings like Goliath, the giant slain by David’s
sling, was said to have had only one eye in the middle of his forehead.
Greek and Roman mythology includes stories of the cyclops, a race of primitive giants who had but one eye. Did
they really exist?
Those involved in
spiritual and esoteric enlightenment refer to the third eye as an invisible eye that offers perception beyond ordinary sight.
The Hindu paint a small mark on the forehead, between the eyebrows, symbolizing the ajna or chakra from which this special
wisdom comes.
In Theosophy, the third
eye is a reference to the pineal gland, a small pea-sized part located in the front our brain that some believe may have served
as the eye of ancient ancestor. For them this is a gate that leads to higher consciousness.
It should not be surprising that evoking the third eye is sometimes associated with religious visions, clairvoyance,
out-of-body experiences, and the ability to see auras and even chakras.
How do we awaken our third eye? Some believe the best way is through deep meditation. Quiet meditation without
outside disturbance (something many of us find hard to achieve in this world of constant chaos) brings in universal energy
through the crown chakra. When done successfully, and with daily consistancy, the results may include a cleansing of the nervous
system, the awakening of kundalini energy, and the opening of the third eye chakra.
From personal experience, just staring at a colorful fruit placed on a white background suddenly produced an aura
of white light surrounding the fruit. With practice it was discovered that auras could be seen surrounding all things. Humans
give off a variety of pale colors when we see their auras. Trees, rocks and things of the earth are surrounded by pure white
auras. The auras flowing from living things like trees and people can sometimes flow some distance from the body, depending
on the energy being generated.
The third
eye has only been fully opened but a few times. Each time it happened I was in a deep state of spiritual thought. Suddenly
I was startled by a bright view of what seemed like another world, full of brilliant colors. The vision disappeared as quickly
as it appeared. It was so unexpected that I was startled back into my own reality.
While I have not experienced this, I am told that once people start awakening the third eye, they feel a tingling
sensation. When they close their eyes they begin to see blurry shapes of colors of white, purple and indigo before more colors
appear.
If we do not feel that vibration,
and we see colors right away, it means that the third eye has already been awakened. One writer suggested that this probably
means that we were spiritually advanced in a previous life so that when we attempt to open the third eye, everything happens
quickly and naturally.
The story of people
having near-death-experiences, and floating through a tunnel to a place of light, vegetation and old friends, is one of the
visions people also can get when looking through the third eye. One theory is that we are traveling into a fourth dimension.
Simona Rich, in an article titled Third Eye Chakra, wrote: "Your eyesight
lets you see the world through the filters . . . limited beliefs . . . that you have. Therefore you only see a small picture
of the real world. Your third eye does not have any filters. Therefore you see reality as it really is."
