The Hermit

Kings Of The New Kingdom

Behold! these be grave mysteries; for there are also of my friends who be hermits. Now think not to find them in the forest or on the mountain; but in beds of purple, caressed by magnificent beasts of women with large limbs, and fire and light in their eyes, and masses of flaming hair about them; there shall ye find them. Ye shall see them at rule, at victorious armies, at all the joy; and there shall be in them a joy a million times greater than this. Beware lest any force another, King against King! Love one another with burning hearts; on the low men trample in the fierce lust of your pride, in the day of your wrath. Ye are against the people, O my chosen! Liber al vel Legis 2:24-25

"Behold!" declares the first word of Verse 24. Hadit wants everyone to pay attention to what he has to say because "these be grave mysteries." The word "grave" in this context means to impress or fix this thought deeply in our minds. Mystery means something not understood, or beyond understanding. The text implies yet another puzzle for us to solve.

In Verses 22-24 we were taught that we "have nothing with the outcast and the unfit" because we are Kings with the power of Hadit flowing through us. While every man and woman is a star, many stars choose to deny this great truth, fail to seek their will, and turn to false idols to "lead" them through a life of misery and woe. These are the outcasts and the unfit. They are not of us because they refuse to acknowledge their own divinity. As communities of religious zealots, they declare war against the will, passing social laws against the human rights of freedom. The word of restriction is sin.

After declaring he has grave mysteries to behold, Hadit says "there are also of my friends who be hermits." On the Tarot the hermit, or the Number Nine, is divinely inspired. He has illumination from within, and prefers seclusion. The ninth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is Teth. Spelled out in Hebrew text the symbols also mean serpent and its cabala number is 419.

Now comes a surprise. "Think not to find them (the inspired hermits) in the forest or on the mountain." Oh no, these fellows should be sought "in beds of purple, caressed by magnificent beasts of women with large limbs, and fire and light in their eyes, and masses of flaming hair about them."

Not hiding in caves, "Ye shall see them at rule, at victorious armies, at all the joy; and there shall be in them a joy a million times greater than this." While a separatist in personal philosophy, the hermit spoken of in these verses knows who he or she is, and is following the will. With the awareness of his or her own godhood, this star is ruling, finding victory and extreme joy.

Hadit warns the hermit Kings to beware, however "lest any force another, King against King!" Since the hermit works alone, he must always be sensitive to the paths of the other stars and never go to battle against another illuminated star. For that would be King against King. Hadit at war with Himself.

Instead of competing, the stars are expected to "Love one another with burning hearts." And for the others: "On the low men trample in the fierce lust of your pride, in the day of your wrath."

But what is this? If we are all stars, is this not a contradictory statement? We are instructed to trample the low men "in the fierce lust of your pride, in the day of your wrath?"

While stars all, sadly only a few of us are willing to shake loose the bonds of religious enslavement and pursue the freedoms promised. The others have declared war against us. Hadit says there will be a time when it is too late for them. The die will be cast. There will be a "day of your wrath" when we trample these "low men in the fierce lust of your pride." The time of choosing will then be over.

On that day these terrible words will ring true: "Ye are against the people, O my chosen!"

Once again we find the word chosen. It implies that all Thelemites were chosen for their tasks at some distant time, long before our arrival on this planet, in this dark three-dimensional existence.

But we forget that time only exists in this element. Our origins were from another dimension, another place, where time is eternal. Thus the Creator, both Nuit and Hadit, knew how this strange play would end from the beginning. They are both Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end.
